CDRN Training Programme
CDRN undertakes a limited number of commissioned assignments every year, not only to supplement its income, but also to explore new areas of work and to provide services to Civil Society Organisations that can afford to pay for this support.
a. In the past few months, we have:
- Supported Right to Play, a Canadian NGO focusing on holistic development for children in difficult circumstances, to initiate a new programme in Uganda, including strategy definition and identification of local partners.
- Helped the Uganda Reach the Aged Association, a local NGO, to update its Strategic Plan.
- Worked with GOAL Uganda to train 13 local organisational partners in Western Uganda in action research, to inform their practice in the field of community-based HIV/AIDS initiatives. We have been commissioned to ensure that, at the end of the training, action research techniques can assist GOAL partners identify specific needs, reflect on their current programmes, and refocus them through self-evaluation, especially for future interventions.
b. Currently, we are
- Providing methodological support to Slum Aid Project, a local NGO active in some of Kampala’s slum communities, to develop a new strategic plan.
- Developing an approach for Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation at PLAN-Uganda, in partnership with a small team of PLAN development workers. A Manual on P M&E, for all PLAN field staff, is being finalised.
- Undertaking a series of organisational financial assessments for CORDAID NGO partners throughout the country, in partnership with ACLAIM.
- Working with UBOS, the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, to develop micro-level poverty indicators in sites where CDRN has previously undertaken action-research activities. This is designed to complement the range of poverty indicators available to national stakeholders involved in poverty trend monitoring, including UBOS.
- Strengthening the capacity of the Kakira Sugar Growers’ Association to participate effectively in an infrastructural development programme, in partnership with Kakira Sugar Corporation. This pilot work has been commissioned by Cambridge Economic Policy Associates in the UK.
